George
Hamilton IV
While many artists with more than 55 years in the
entertainment business might be thinking of
slowing down, it's quite the opposite for
longtime Grand Ole Opry star George Hamilton IV.
He returns to Miles of Memories for the 2012
event to the delight of MusicFest fans who love
his easy-going, soft-spoken style of performing.
In addition to his hits, including "Abilene" and
"Break My Mind," you'll love his Texas songs, novelty tunes and gospel songs as well.
He's earned his title of International Ambassador of Country
Music by performing across the globe, and
continues to entertain fans who love traditional
music at festivals, churches, concert venues and
other events across the United States as well.
Welcome back, George IV!
Terry Sm ith
The man who created "Far-side Banks of Jordan"
continues to write and sing the kind of songs
that make you think, laugh,
reminisce, or just plain smile. His "Jordan" has
been featured in the soundtrack of a major film
and was sung
at both Johnny and June Carter Cash's funerals.
More recently, his songs have been recorded by
the likes of Chris LeDoux, The Cox Family and
Roger Tibbs.
This year marks Terry's third appearance at
Miles of Memories.
The Johansen
Sisters
Raised in rural northeast Nebraska, the Johansen
Sisters have been singing classic country music
most of their lives. Sibling harmony simply
can't be beat, and Julie and Rhonda do it right,
as they create a performance that
brings back
memories and shares the joys of music done
family-style. They have received awards for
their harmony and songwriting, and their latest
CD “Cup of Joe” won the 2011 Rural Roots
Commission CD of the Year award. It's always a
treat for our Miles of Memories festivarians to
hear and see The Johansen Sisters!
Buck "The Big
Man"
Buck Helton is a big man with a wonderful, velvety
voice who loves to sing the songs about the
cowboy
way of life and even share a story or
cowboy poem or two. He's being featured
this season of the Shotgun
Red Variety Show, broadcast nationally on
RFD-TV and works closely with the Western Music
Association to preserve and perpetuate
traditional Western music, storytelling and
poetry. You may have caught Buck's performance
at the National Cowboy Symposium in Texas, the
Gene Autry Oklahoma Film & Music Festival, the
SASS Convention or at any number of other events
across the Southwest. He's the
host/producer of a w eekly radio show called
"Cowboy Camp-meeting," which is webcast on Ralphsbackporch.com, SuperCountryHits.com and
TwangtownUSA.com. He's currently in the process
of working in a new movie called A Good Man's
Decision, where he gets to act as well as sing!
Buck brings a wonderful and warm dimension to
Miles of Memories and we look forward to sharing
his music with you!
Liz Talley
From coast to coast and across the world people seem to
be intrigued with the music that comes out of
the Lone Star State. For years traditional music
fans have been
entertained with many great singers in all
genres of music that hailed from the great state
of Texas. Native Houstonian Liz Talley is no
exception. When she sings, it’s pure
Texas
delight. ..and we welcome her back to the Miles
of Memories MusicFest where she'll share her
spunky Texas brand of country music!
Jake Renick
Simpson & Tornado Alley
He's a college man now...but he's still playing his
fiddler (better than ever), guitar and a few
other instruments! Jake returns to the
MusicFest with his new band, "Tornado Alley" in
tow...and we're looking forward to a pickin' and
singin' storm. With a new album soon to be
released, we can hardly wait to see what he's
been up to!
